Army National Guard Mobile Event Team The Lumberjack World Championships are pleased to announce that they will be featuring the Wisconsin Army National Guard's High Ropes Course at this year's event.
The Ropes Course is a highly interactive event that measures 25 feet in height by 30 feet in length. This highly visual attraction works on a harness and track ball system; participants are harnessed up by members of the Mobile Event Team at the bottom of the stairs and are monitored by the Event Team members at the top of the course.
The track system allows participants to move freely around the course and gives them the opportunity to try to reach eight (8) ropes obstacles the course has to offer. The rope obstacles are fully interchangeable which gives this piece of equipment the unique ability to be reinvented as often as the courses are changed.
The Lumberjack World Championships are proud to have the Army National Guard here with us this weekend as we celebrate our 51st year of competition. The National Guard is the oldest component of the Armed Forces of the United States and one of the nation's longest enduring institutions. The National Guard operates in all 50 states, three territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, Virgin Islands) and the District of Columbia.
Meet "Dewey"
This year, visitors will have an opportunity to meet and greet 'Dewey' mascot of the Lumberjack World Championships'. He is so named because he is sponsored by Mt. Dew and WRLS Radio. Dewey first appeared at LWC in 2002 and since that time has made numerous appearances at various local and regional festivals. He is a visual reminder of the lumberjacks that once filled the woods in northwest Wisconsin in the late 1800's and whose skills we celebrate today at the Lumberjack World Championships'.
Dewey will be entertaining LWC visitors throughout the weekend and we invite you and your family to stop and shake his hand or have your picture taken with him during our 'Olympics of the Forest' weekend.
Meet the Wisconsin Lottery 'Moola Sisters'
The Moola Sisters, the official mascots of the Wisconsin Lottery will once again be attending the Lumberjack World Championships'. Moo and La, the Lottery's goodwill ambassadors hoof it all across the state of Wisconsin, letting everyone know that the Lottery has generated more than $2 billion for Wisconsin property taxpayers, $3.5 billion in prizes for players and more than $300 million in sales commissions for Lottery retailers.
The Lac Courte Oreilles Arts and Crafts Association will also be on hand with a small village with a couple of wigwams, demonstrating native crafts such as cradle board making, deer hide tanning and an open pit fire to sample corn soup from. Performers with drum and song will also be on hand with many crafts available for sale.
The Pinery Boys
Last year's 50th Anniversary event was a "doozie" and ranks right up there as one of the best of all our 50 years. One special surprise was the appearance of The Pinery Boys.
Yes, the Pinery Boys are back! This talented group of five singers will once again music from the old logging camps along with lumberjack stories and legends passed down from the 1800's. A special highlight will be the beautiful national anthems of New Zealand, Australia, Canada and America presented to honor our competitors from all over the world. Don't miss the chance to hear the actual music heard around the bunkhouse fire in Wisconsin's Northwoods logging camps of long ago.
The Pinery Boys will have CDs of their music available at Lumberjack Bowl. To listen to a sample of their music or to get a CD now you can visit www.heartistrymusic.com
