Experience the Sights and Sounds
YO HO! Translated, the enthusiastic cry of the axe-man means "Hello, I'm excited to be here." The Board of Directors of the Lumberjack World Championships® and all of the competitors from around the globe are excited that you, the spectator, plan to be here as well.
The Lumberjack World Championships® is an annual sporting event held at Lumberjack Bowl in beautiful Hayward, Wisconsin. The championships were established to perpetuate the rich history of logging that took place here in the northwestern part of Wisconsin. In fact, Lumberjack Bowl was once a giant holding pond for the logs of Weyerhaeuser's North Wisconsin Lumber Company.
The Championships take place over a three day period in a variety of competitive logging events. Held the last weekend in July of each year, these events include chopping, sawing, tree-climbing, and log rolling. Competitors come from as far away as Canada, Australia and New Zealand to vie for more than $50,000 in prize money, one of the richest paybacks of any lumberjack contest in the world.
John Deere and Nortrax
The Lumberjack World Championships are proud to announce that John Deere, the world’s leading engineer and manufacturer of forest machines and Nortrax, North America’s largest John Deere Forestry and Construction Equipment dealer, will be the Title Sponsors of this year’s Championships.
They invite you to stop by the John Deere tent where great John Deere toys and forestry scale models will be for sale and to come and see the most revolutionary logging machine on the planet. . .the John Deere 1270E Wheeled Harvester. Come sit in the cab and see what it is like for loggers to operate these truly amazing machines!
Meet "Dewey"
This year, visitors will have an opportunity to meet and greet 'Dewey' mascot of the Lumberjack World Championships®. He is so named because he is sponsored by Mt. Dew and WRLS Radio. Dewey first appeared at LWC in 2002 and since that time has made numerous appearances at various local and regional festivals. He is a visual reminder of the lumberjacks that once filled the woods in northwest Wisconsin in the late 1800s and whose skills we celebrate today at the Lumberjack World Championships®.
Dewey will be entertaining LWC visitors throughout the weekend and we invite you and your family to stop and shake his hand or have your picture taken with him during our 'Olympics of the Forest' weekend.
The Pinery Boys
Last year's event was a "doozie" and ranks right up there as one of the best of all our 50 plus years. One special surprise was the appearance of The Pinery Boys.
Yes, the Pinery Boys are back! This talented group of five singers will once again music from the old logging camps along with lumberjack stories and legends passed down from the 1800s. A special highlight will be the beautiful national anthems of New Zealand, Australia, Canada and America presented to honor our competitors from all over the world. Don't miss the chance to hear the actual music heard around the bunkhouse fire in Wisconsin's Northwoods logging camps of long ago.
The Pinery Boys will have CDs of their music available at Lumberjack Bowl. To learn more about the Pinery Boys, visit their website at www.lumberjackmusic.com.
