LOG ROLLING AND BOOM RUN



Jenny Jenny Atkinson
A primary school teacher in Stillwater, MN, Atkinson saw her first tournament as a spectator and from that brief encounter decided right then and there that that this was the sport for her. In 2007 Atkinson took home gold by besting Shana Martin in the Women's Log Rolling finals. Last year the tables were turned and Atkinson placed second against Martin. In 1995 and 1996 Jenny was the first woman to win the Boom Run, earning her the title of "Boom Queen" as she was the first woman to qualify with the men. In the Women's Boom Run she placed fourth at last year's championships.

Taylor Taylor Duffy
A 24 year old native from Hayward, Taylor keeps in shape by cross country skiing, biking and playing basketball. To keep in top form, Taylor trains outside starting in May practicing log rolling and boom running daily. Currently pursuing graduate school for dental hygiene, Taylor will graduate in May with another dental hygiene degree. Taylor took home a third place finish in the Women's Log Rolling competition last year.

Tyler Tyler Fischer
Nineteen year old Tyler, an avid hockey player from Hudson, Wisconsin is a cousin of multi- year champion Jamie Fischer. Being able to train on Jamie's boom run has payed off as he placed first in the Men's Boom Run with a time of 13.719 and also took home a 3rd place finish in the Men's Logrolling event, besting cousin Jamie.

Fisher, attributes his success in the boom run and logrolling to his long family heritage and to his own private boom run set up in the backyard of his Stillwater, MN home. Fisher shattered his previous world record time of: 12.98 in the Men's Boom Run set in 2004, with a new world record of: 12.49 at the 2005 Championships, which still stands to this day. Fischer is the holder of 7 continuous Boom Run World Championships. Fischer, who also held the 2003, 2004 and 2006 Men's Log Rolling crowns, took home second place in last year's Men's Open Log Rolling. Committed to the sport of log rolling, Fischer is an ardent promoter of the sport and has started several log rolling schools throughout the country.

Abby Abby Hoeschler
Abby, 22, the youngest of the three daughters of world champion Judy(Scheer)Hoeschler, once held the distinction of the being the yongest boom runner in the finals at age 14. Now 22, Abby took home the silver in last year's Women's Boom Run and she also captured a 4th place finish in the Women's Log Rolling.

Elizabeth Elizabeth Hoeschler
A 24 year old native from La Crosse, WI, Hoeschler comes from a family of log rollers, with her mother Judy a seven-time World Champion. Both of her sisters, Kate and Abby, are log rollers and they all compete and train against each other every summer as they have since they were small children. Hoeschler, who has been competing for 19 years placed 2nd in the 2005 Women's Log Rolling Championships and took home a 3rd place finish in that event last year. Elizabeth also placed second in a very tight race in the 2007 Women's Boom Run against winner Jenny Atkinson.

Darren Darren Hudson
Hudson, 31, from Barrington, Nova Scotia comes from a family with a long history of competing at the Lumberjack World Championships. He is the nephew of nine-time world champion Phil Scott, who Darren credits for his success. Hudson, who has been competing for 19 years claimed his second men's pro logrolling title last year defeating new pro roller David Sievert and took home a 4th place finish in the Men's Boom Run. After winning the title, Hudson said "There's a lot of history in this place. It's been a tough mountain to climb to win this title. I really trained hard for it".

Shana Shana Martin
A Madison native, Shana is a young woman who has been involved in a wide variety of fitness and sports activities her whole life. A former gymnast and pole vaulter in high school, Martin holds a black belt in karate, is involved in fitness competitions and competes in triathlons. Her first love however, has always been log rolling, a love affair that began when she first started lessons as a 7 year old at the Madison YMCA. Competing as a pro since 1997, Shana states that "I just love being a lumberjill"! Obviously her love of the sport and her competitive nature paid off last year for her as she took home the gold in both Women's Log Rolling and the Women's Boom Run.

Jacob Jacob Rick
18 year old Rick from Onalaska, Wisconsin has been involved in the sport of log rolling for many years. Relatively new to the pro ranks in the boom run, Jacob took home silver last year in the Men's Boom Run with a time of 14.138 seconds.

Alyse Alyse Schroeder
Schroeder, from Hayward, Wisconsin trains daily with her younger sister Lauryn, also a log roller, either at her home or at the Lumberjack Bowl. Holding 5 amateur log rolling titles, it was inevitable that this Penn State toxicology student would make her mark in the pro ranks. Last year she placed 3rd in the Women's Boom Run and this year she is set on claiming no less than gold.

David David Sievert
A Hayward native, Sievert started log rolling at the age of 5 at the Lumberjack Bowl in Hayward. David continues to practice and train at Lumberjack Bowl, where he was taught by many of Hayward's past champions including Denise Marquardt and JR Salzman. Currently David trains with Dan McDonough, Brian Duffy and Nick Mast in the summer months. Keeping in shape by playing soccer, baseball and competing in cross country skiing, Sievert also finds time to teach for the Namekagon River Rollers Log Rolling School. Sievert can now add his name to the list of hometown champions as he placed a close 2nd in the Men's Log Rolling Championships against Darren Hudson and also placed 8th in the Men's Boom Run.
